Title: John Martyn.
Post by Spudgun on May 3rd, 2006, 1:52pm
Anyone enjoy John Martyn as much as me last night?.

Loved his rambling & the hidden profanities & the tracks were pretty awsome too.

The fact that it wasn't a 'polished' & tight performance endeared me no end.

It all seemed so natural & genuine.

Y'see, I didn't get it at all. Sounded like Roly Birkin QC when he talked (I got about one word in 12) and like the club singer when he sang. Didn't undertand whether I should be taking it seriously or not.

Mon & Tues shows recorded too - wonder why?

:-/

"Legendary" guests. Don't turn up at night for nobody.

I was as impressed with John Martyn as I was with Count Arthur Strong.

I thought he was entertaining as well, and also his live songs sounded great. Is roly the old chap off the fast show as he did sound like him, he also reminded me of  Olly Reed (RIP) Tommy Cooper(RIP) i just thought he was gonna say, juss like that at any moment. I also agree that it was very hard too understand what he was saying, so well done too mark as he seemed to understand most of what he said.

Definitely pre-recorded, he'd never do it live

John Fogerty sounded pre-recorded to me. There was a distinct lack of audience interaction at times. Was there any? My short term memory is unable to remember if there was even a crucial three. Checking the tracklisting it appears not. Didn't hear the John Martyn show.

If only they'd show the webcam on the digital telly radio channel,(If that makes any sense.) then I could see whether it was live or as live without needing to be at a computer.

The John Fogerty show might have been recorded...It doesn't matter really. Both of the shows went way over my head and left me longing for another Cribs appearance or The Earlies to be on again.

Is there any way we can have something like this on here for Mark and Marc's shows? Not Mint obviously!

Sorry I've been a bit busy this last few days and I meant to put in my earlier post - sorry to be ignorant - who is John Martyn anyway?

???

I'm pretty ignorant of him and his career too. This might help:

Thanks - that's pretty comprehensive, wonder why I've not heard of him before?

I'm listening to the John Martyn one right now. Did someone mention The Korgis? I have that single. I love it, always have.

JM's music has never been to my taste, and he's even worse than Rufus at slurring his words. He sounds like Keith Moon or Olly Reed on this when he's talking!

RJ, The Earlies session was recorded. It was the same Bank Holiday Monday last year, so might have been done in the afternoon. The Fogerty one was done in London, and may have been done on the day. Mark was mentioning coming back from London and leaving a copy of Q magazine on the plane. I don't know when he said that, but the Fogerty interview will be that day or the day before.
