Reply #43 confirms to me what I thought; the talents of Stuart Maconie often put those of Mark Radcliffe in the shade whilst they continue to broadcast in this format.

It was bound to attract comparisons which they could otherwise have avoided.

There was an interview with Maconie in the Metro today, plugging his book;

Quote:
How does Wigan's food compare with other towns in the region?
I don't know what they have in Bolton, it's a culinary wasteland. Radcliffe's from Bolton and his favourite food, which I find depressing, is a baked potato.  He claims it's the greatest food in the world.  That tells you how adventurous the people of Bolton are vis-a-vis food, doesn't it?

I know what food they have in Bolton, the same as everywhere else as it is 2007 and not the 1950s.

Another great thing this week from Mr Maconie is

"I could claim Mark Radcliffe never existed and this was always the Stuart Maconie show, but I won't do that."

Or something like it.
If Mark had said it, it would no doubt be a sign of bullying Stuart when he wasn't there to defend himself.

I also liked how he wasn't happy with what people were emailing in on Thursday, they didn't do as he said and weren't sending in funny suggestions for people who have changed music or something, so he told them to think of better ones.

Oh, and he said he'd like emails so he didn't have to work twice as hard.

Wow! Cheeky.

I've not listened at all this week (too busy, enough trouble keeping up with Marc) but that sounds priceless. And the JayKay confession - never if Mark was around!

I don't think parched peas are found anywhere outside of Lancashire.

Stuart said in the same link as the Jay Kay thing that he also liked Stevie Wonder and dance music and Jamiroquai are great at funk and dance. The next time they play Stevie Wonder Mark is not all to blame.

Would it have been cheeky if Mark had said it about Stuart? or would it have been a sign that he wants control and doesn't think much of Stuart's contribution?

There'll be a reason for that.

Really really enjoyed the show this week, Stuart was top form and showing why this should be a solo show for him (and MR should be the afternoon jock).

His cheeky jokes were brilliant, even if the the odd person doesn't get them! The music (not mentioned in some posts) was of the highest quality, Robert Wyatt, Vashti Bunyan and Stiff Records, what's not to like!

And I can't stand people who try to wind others up. If you seriously want to discuss how great this week has been please do so in the Week 25 thread you started. - EB

No. Don't.

We know Mark used to be quite forthright about the music on 1FM, and also to a certain extent on The Mark Radcliffe Show. There's been less of that on Radcliffe and Maconie.

Has Stuart soothed the savage beast? Or it could be a directive from Legless so there is less negativity about playlist music.

You will of course be adding notes to other peoples posts who also talk about this weeks show in the 'wrong place'.

And if you don't think other people don't post things to 'wind people up' I'm afraid you may be mistaken!

At least I talk about the music on the show, which is more the one other poster ever does instead of a constant stream of character assassination of a honest and likeable presenter.

I will post the same thing in the 'correct' thread and hope it doesn't upset the more sensitive posters.
