There's a passable joke 34 mins into this Sunday's Blue Room.

Later, Chris Coco says "World Cup coming up soon isn't it? I think? Yeah apparently..." That's the spirit!

Just to continue the Frank Sidebottom news thread thing, he's unveiling a new mosaic on Affleck's Palace in the middle of Manchester on Thursday at noon, with celebrity chums!

It's free, I can't see why I won't be there.

(Apart from the fact that it's dangerously close to Vinyl Exchange.  I really should stay away from there, otherwise I may as well set up a standing order with them.  "A look can't hurt can it?  Dang, bought a bag full of CDs again...")

Would that be Ben Affleck?

I'd heard of him, but didn't know what he looked like.  I don't appear to have missed much!

The Frank Sidebottom thing was weird.  I couldn't really hear what he was saying because it was right on the roadside, there was traffic going past, and he was wearing a papier mache head!  I just watched him hide behind Little Frank as the mosaic sprayed water...

The mosaic is interesting...  It contains portraits of both Franks, Mrs Merton, and Sidebottom's old keyboard/accordion player, Mark Radcliffe.  In a fez.

<edit>  This is the best picture I could find.

I caught the back end of this the other night, and do you know...  I didn't even recognise it was Mark narrating!

In the radio times it says Mark is on this programme

The Story of Light Entertainment

5th August 06 9:25pm - 10:55pm

BBC2

 3/8 - Radio Stars

This terrific, engaging series has rapidly become a weekly treat. At 90 minutes an episode, it might seem a bit of a haul, but every second is worth it. Tonight, we take a look at radio as popular entertainment, from the war years of ITMA and Band Waggon (which to these contemporary ears sound leaden), through the glory years of Hancock's Half Hour and the peerless Round the Horne, to recent Radio 4 (and later TV transfer) successes Little Britain and The League of Gentlemen. Perhaps, though, the most entertaining bits focus on the growth and often turbulent times of Radio 1. Hearing Tony Blackburn discuss his early dislike of Noel Edmonds, whom he jokes stole his breakfast show, and listening once again to Dave Lee Travis's extraordinarily pompous on-air resignation are balm to the soul. Just about every DJ in history chips in with their contributions, including a characteristically modest and selfeffacing Jimmy Savile, the loud Emperor Rosko and, for all of you Fab 208 lovers, Tony Prince. Ah, happy days...
