I've been listening to the soundtrack for The Hunt For Red October by Basil Poledouris. Not all of it. Just one track - Hymn To Red October. Don't entirely know why.

I have a confession to make.  I found the KC album a disappointment.

*hangs head in shame*

Nowhere near as catchy and engaging as his previous stuff.  May well still go to the gig, though.

I think if you take some songs in isolation and try to work out the story behind them, it works. There production in this one is perhaps too professional, I'd like to see the songs live, might give them something that's missing on record.

That iPod nano advert - couldn't work out who it was. I really liked the tune, then I found out it was that overplayed one by Feist which I hated at the time. Goes to show the detrimental effect playlist clerks have on me.

A local band to me, B Raymond and the Voicettes (shocker of a name) have bagged the tune for the upcoming Brylcreem advert. Old Man Marley, I doubt if they deserve to get far but I guess they'll get a few quid at least.

Forgot about this thread!

The platters that matter at the moment are:

Ivor The Engine and Pogles Wood (Original TV Music)-The Vernon Elliott Ensemble.   Really sweet and evocative music. Roll on next year for Noggin the Nog!

Welsh Rare Beat 2-Various Artists.   Another fantastic comp from Gruff Rhys (SFA) and Andy Votel. If it's psych-pop and Welsh it's on here.

Person Pitch-Panda Bear.  Probably better than PB's Animal Collectives Strawberry Jam, and that was brilliant.

Ask Forgiveness-Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.  This has sneaked out, no reviews, no ads nothing. But up there with his best I think.

Nervous Tension-Various Artists.  An EMI post-punk collection. Super comp with the well known, XTC, PIL, Magazine and some not so known, The Scars, The Flys and Modern Eon.

I'm Not There (OST)-Various Artists.  All the Dylan covers you'll ever need. Best track Dark Eyes by Calexico and Iron and Wine.

I have also been listening to

Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns. ( Its had a lot of good reviews, but sounds like The Proclaimers gone indie IMO)

Also Ash- Twilight of the Innocents their  best since 1977 imo.

i worked out i only own one of the top 50 walbums of the year in Q mag - this worries me slightly...it used to be 6 to 10!

does this indicate that:

a) im out of touch with what's hip and happenin'
b) i listen to dab radio so much im not so fussed about buying cds now
or c) ive been to skint to indulge my penchant for browsing record shops this year!

no answers on a postcard as they'll only get robbed by thieving ghet postmen Grin

Come quietly or there will be... trouble.

The soundtrack to Robocop by Basil Poledouris has been aired a few times through my headphones.
